Transcript
long letter & a picture of myself for Christmas. She wrote so briefly, not about my likeness, which I excuse her for doing so slightly. My heart feels extremely achy & sore, in her deepest troubles. I could shed tears with her. I love her for the Lord’s sake, although [I] have never seen her. I esteemed pres. [President] Garfield
