Description

Photograph of a Big Blue Book and article clipping on display. The Blue Book, Spurts from an Interrupted Pen, is a series of essays written by Marcet Haldeman-Julius in 1927. One of these essays, "Negroes in Kansas Colleges," recounts the time a Missouri track team refused to compete against Pittsburg due to George Sweatt, a black man, being on the team. Her essay was written a few years after this occurred and her version varies slightly from Garfield Weede's, the coach at the time of the incident. The framed clipping is from the essay.
