Abstract
This thesis makes a study of the changes in the statistics of the normal frequency distribution caused by elimination of modification in the lower portion of the distribution. This study was made by calculating the statistics of (1) the normal distribution with six percent of the lower range eliminated, (2) the normal distribution with twenty percent of the lower range eliminated, (3) the normal distribution with six percent eliminated and modified from the point of elimination to the man of the eliminated distribution, (4) the normal distribution with twenty percent eliminated and modified from the point of elimination to the mean of the eliminated distribution. The percentages of the distribution falling within specified ranges were determined for each of the distributions and the results tabulated.
The percentages in various ranges vary in such a way that the greatest variations are found within the higher and lower ranks, and the least variation in the middle rank. If percentages in the various ranges in each of the distribution studied are compared to those of the normal curve, we find the highest rank increases, the next highest rank decreased, the middle rank varies but little, the next lower rank increases, and the lowest rank decreases. However, these changes are not as high as quite frequently expected, due to the shifting of the mean to the right and to a decrease in the value of the standard deviation.
