Abstract
The problem was to ascertain if a student in the Pittsburg High School can obtain the courses that will help him to prepare for the occupation of his choice.
The choice of occupation was obtained from 240 students by means of a questionnaire. The educational requirements for the selected occupation were checked against the high school curriculum.
It was found that there is liberal provision for those students who plan to enter college.
The curriculum affords sufficient training for those who wish to enter the commercial field and it meets the general requirements for music and art.
The courses in woodwork and mechanical drawing are adapted to the needs of those students wishing to follow the woodworking trades. The curriculum offers nothing except woodworking and elementary mechanical drafting that is directly helpful to student who plan to enter any of the building trades or architecture. Students who are looking in the direction of mechanical, civil, or electrical engineering, and those interested in radio or airplane mechanics are not provided with any practical experience.
Agriculture and its related subjects seem to be omitted entirely from the high school curriculum.
