PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Dr. Eva Jessye is an outstanding Black American artist, and is internationally acclaimed as teacher, writer, composer, choral director and humanitarian; and
WHEREAS, it is deemed advisable to further the Eva Jessye Collection of Afro-American Music, Literature and Art, to be located in the Town of Taft, and deemed desirable to increase public awareness of, and interest in the accomplishments of Dr. Eva Jessye;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, LELIA FOLEY, Mayor of the town of Taft, State of Oklahoma, with the support of the Town Council, do hereby proclaim Sunday, May 4, 1975, as Dr. Eva Jessye Day in Taft, Oklahoma, and urge the citizens of this community and the State of Oklahoma to recognize Dr. Eva Jessye Day as a special occasion and tribute to Dr. Eva Jessye.
All persons are further encouraged to increase their awareness and appreciation of the work of Dr. Eva Jessye by attending the historical musical drama entitled, "Vision '75-A Salute to Green country", an original production by Dr. Eva Jessye to be presented on Sunday, May 4, 1975, at 3:00 P.M. at the Civic Assembly Center in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
