Abstract
Common belief regarding upward mobility often indicates early career librarians need to make sacrifices to gain experience or relocate. At Pittsburg State University that was not the case with the most recent hire for the Cataloging Librarian position. The presenter will discuss how that experience and graduating from the MLS program during the height of Covid-19 influenced coming into both a full-time staff and then a faculty position. Talking points will include the benefits of institutional knowledge and personnel stability vs. movement. The presenter welcomes attendees to discuss the topic of early librarian’s expectations, encourages them to reflect on their own early careers, and to brainstorm ways to change the mindset regarding upward mobility at their institution.
