Reproduction of the painting entitled, "Dr. James Naismith The Father of Basketball." Dr. James Naismith (1861-1939), invented the game of basketball while in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1891. Naismith was the first basketball coach at the University of Kansas, Lawrence, in 1898 to 1907.
