Abstract

"Sweatt Secured Go-Devil Victory Over Moran."

"Some fifty Iola people journeyed to Moran yesterday afternoon to witness the baseball game between the Iola Go-Devils and the Moran teams. With the Iola people who attended there was one of the largest crowds of the season at any Moran base ball game. The feature of the game was the manner in which Sweatt, the Go-Devils' twirler, pitches a no-hit game. Although he permitted six batters to take bases on balls, there was not a hit throughout the game on the Moran side. Messenger, the Moran pitcher, also pitched an excellent game, but in comparison with Sweatt, he was tame. During the middle part of the game, Garner has secured second base, when Johnson made a line drive over that base, the ball was caught by Spafford, who touched the base, thereby making a neat double play."
