Abstract
"Defeat the White Sox in Double Bill Yesterday.
Morning Game Slow and Listless--Afternoon Contest Replete with Excellent Plays."
Article on the Iola Go-Devils, the black team, winning two games against the Iola White Sox, presumably an all white team. The article includes featured plays of the game. Of George Sweatt it says, "Sweatt, the pitcher from the village to the south, was the "heavy" man in the show. He held the Sox to four hits, fanned five men and his teammates only made one error," and "Johnson, Sweatt, and Wright each hit for two bases. At no time were the White Sox in danger of scoring, as every time a man got on Sweatt would put the kibosh on his successor at bat."
