Abstract
This Manual is intended for use by bird banders in North America. It was prepared jointly by the staffs of the Bird Banding Offices of the United States and Canada and is usable by both Canadian and U.S. banders. Instructions specific to either U.S. or Canada banding are so noted.
In the United States, the bird banding office is call the Bird Banding Laboratory; its counterpart in Canada is called the Banding Office. The activities of both offices are coordinated, and the same kind of bands are used by each.
The manual is in loose leaf form so that obsolete pages may be removed and replaced and additional pages can also be inserted. Updated information is provided in the form of Memoranda To All Banders (MTABs) and Memoranda to Canadian Banders. Suggestions for improving the manual are welcomed and should be sent to the appropriate banding office. [Taken from foreword]
