Abstract

We will be concerned here with the theatrical activities in Miami, Oklahoma, from the Indian Territory days through early statehood. In the course of this investigation we will be examining this locality's demand for theatre even before it was a part of the United States. This demand for theatre and the theatrical activities themselves will be considered in the context of some of the influences of the surrouinding cities and towns within the adjacent states; and we will take note of the similarities of this very small town outside the confines of "civilization" to the theatre movement of the nation as a whole and of towns and cities in the southwest in particular.
