ANNOUNCING THE WINNER OF THE SECOND ANNUAL VICTOR J. EMMETT, JR., MEMORIAL PRIZE
On behalf of the family of the late Professor Victor J. Emmett, Jr., the faculty of the English Department and the editors of The Midwest Quarterly are happy to announce the winner of the 1995 Emmett Memorial Prize:
Sanford Pinsker, Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, for his essay, “Was High Modernism a Humanism?" which appeared in the Spring 1995 issue of The Midwest Quarterly.
Dr. Pinsker will receive an honorarium provided by an endowment ~et up by the Emmett family and will be invited to Pittsburg State University to deliver the Emmett Memorial Lecture during fall, 1995.
ANNOUNCING THE ANNUAL VICTOR J. EMMETT, JR., MEMORIAL PRIZE AND LECTURE The editors of The Midwest Quarterly invite submission of articles on any aspect of Victorian and Modem British Literature, Literary Criticism, and the Teaching of Literature, to be considered for the annual Emmett Memorial Prize. The winning author will receive an honorarium and will be invited to Pittsburg State University to deliver the annual Emmett Memorial Lecture. The late Victor J. Emmett, Jr., was for many years Professor of English at Pittsburg State University and this journal's Editor-in- Chief.
Theodore M. Sperry, nationally recognized scientist and ecologist, longtime member of the Board of Editors of Midwest Quarterly, and valued friend, has died. Ted succumbed after a lengthy illness in late March. As the last continuing link to the founding of this publication, his passing carries a special sadness. For an editor, Ted's lively comments, frequently zigging where everyone else was zagging, were precious. Ted is credited with being the first to preserve and restore a portion of the Great Plains prairie. This site, in Wisconsin, will be a living memorial to one man's vision. He will be remembered by many, but far fewer than those whose lives he touched.
