in this issue . . .

SCOTT EDWARDS, who examines attitudes toward science and progress, received his Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate School and teaches political science at California State University, Hayward. His articles have appeared in numerous journals including MQ.
TIMOTHY J. LUKES, who finds inwardness an inadequate defense against oppression, teaches political science at the University of Santa Clara.
CHARLES CAGLE, who scrutinizes Sargent's portraits, received his M.F.A. from the University of Iowa and teaches creative writing at Pittsburg State. His fiction has appeared in a number of magazines.
KENT BLASER, who discusses the hard times that history seems to have fallen upon (evidently few now heed George Norlin's observation that one who "knows only his own generation remains always a child"), received his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina and teaches history at Wayne State College in Nebraska. His articles have appeared in a number of journals.
RONALD G. MARQUARDT, who warns that the judicial system may sink under the weight of American litigiousness, is an alumnus of Pittsburg State and a former faculty member. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Missouri and teaches political science at the University of Southern Mississippi. He has published articles on the judiciary.
JUANITA LAING, who reviews Rebecca Patterson's posthumously published Emily Dickinson's Imagery, received her Ph.D. from the University of Kansas and teaches English at Pittsburg State University.
