Hearl Maxwell, 82, passed away at the Mr. Carmel Medical Center at 11:16 P.M., after being admitted to intensive care from a heart attack suffered at the Laidler Rest Home at 9:42 A.M. on March 6, 1974.

Mr. Maxwell was born on the family homestead, on what is now Arcadia RFD #2, and grew to manhood in this area. He was employed in the Coal Industry, working in and around the mines. He was quite active in Union affairs. Later, Mr. Maxwell became self employed as a trucker for the Coal Industry. During the Korean conflict he worked in war production at the Parsons Army Ammunition plant and was an official with the AFL-CIO chapter there. After the end of the conflict Mr. Maxwell and Mrs. Maxwell moved to Eureka, Kansas. Mr. Maxwell was connected with the School system there, in their transportation division. Later on, he retired and returned to Mulberry where the family made their home, once again.

Mr. Maxwell was united in marriage to M. Elizabeth Hamilton, in Arcadia, Kansas, June 9, 1915. Mrs. Maxwell preceded him in death, passing on July 23, 1972. Later, due to failing health, Mr. Maxwell moved to the Laidler Rest Home in Pittsburg, where he has resided until his death.

He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Frank (Elizabeth) Jones, Mulberry; Mrs. Luigi (Patricia) Brichalli, Coffeyville; Mrs. Sandra Penner, Wichita; Four sons, Hearl Maxwell Jr., Chrisopher Ill., Marion Maxwell, Branson, Mo.; Max R. Maxwel, Carl Junction, Mo.; and Robert E. Maxwell, Shawnee Mission, Kansas; Twenty-four grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

Casket bearers were his grandsons, Hearl Jimmie Maxwell, Richard Thomas Maxwell, Thomas Howard Maxwell, Richard Bricker Maxwell, Barney Montanelli, and Carl Burke.

Funeral services were Saturday afternoon, at 2 p.m., in the United Methodist Church, Mulberry, Kansas, with Reverend Elton P. Garrison as the officiant. Organist will be Mrs. C. E. Runnels with the Vocalist, Robert Docherty, using “How Great Thou Art,” and “I’ll Never Pass This Way Again.”
