Description
John G. MacKay, Jr. was born in 1935 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Minnesota in 1956, bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Julliard School of Music in 1959, and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Iowa in 1966.
In 1975, MacKay joined the music faculty at Pittsburg State as an Assistant Professor of Music. He became head of piano studies while continuing to compose original music.
Music composed by MacKay for trombone and various accompaniments comprises the bulk of the materials. There is also a program from a tribute recital held at PSU in 1998 featuring performances of his compositions, and two pieces written for voice and piano.
