Abstract
The purpose of this study is to develop a system of teaching United States constitutional government by means of color charts and diagrams. After a study of library reference material relative to the construction of charts and grapgs, the writer compiled a tentative series of charts illustrating governmental facts. This set of diagrams, accompanied with suitable explanations, was tired out in eight high schools of south-eastern Kansas and southern Missouri. The teachers and students in these schools were given blanks on which to record their evaluations and criticisms of the plan. These students' and instructors' reactions were collected and tabulated by the writer. From a critical examination of these findings the writer concludes that color charts are helpful in the presentation of United States constitutional government facts for the color feature makes facts more concrete, emphasizes important facts, eliminates unnecessary details, saves mental energy, saves time, clarifies thought, fixes attention, provides less chance for error, shows future possibilities in government, and crestes a desire in the students for greater accomplishments. A set of charts with their explanations which have been revised and corrected in accordance with suggestions offered by both students and teachers appears at the close of the study.
