Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine a certain group of plays by Sir Arthur Wing Pinero to see what form the well made play took under his treatment and development. The well-made play will be defined later, but for our purpose it is sufficient to state that the term refers to the type of play constructed by Eugene Scribe, a French dramatist of the mid-nineteenth century, and his followers. This type of play followed a set form and all later plays which showed the influence of Scribe received the name of well-made plays.
