Abstract

Two questions are answered in this study. They are: (1) How many plays, suitable for presentation by a high school cast, be selected? (2) Where may plays, suitable for presentation by a high school cast, be found?

The answer to the first question includes methods for the proper selection of high school plays. The answer to the second question includes rather extensive lists of suitable high school plays.

It is the experience of the writer that the average director of plays in high school has little to guide him or her in the selection of suitable plays. Letters on file from various directors and publishers indicate that each has a few good ideas concerning high school plays; however, the ideas of one director or publisher do not always correspond with those of another. It seems only reasonable that a combination of ideas from several publishers should prove helpful to those engaged in dramatic work. This study makes the ideas and recommendations of representative Kansas directors, accessible to all. [Taken from introduction]
