Abstract

[Taken from introduction]

The general purpose of this study is to determine the desirability of classifying children according to the grouping plan which has been described above.

The specific purpose of this study is: first, to ascertain whether the pupils who completed the sixth grade of the elementary school in five years reached the standard of achievement of those pupils who completed the sixth grade in six years or longer; second, to determine whether the present plan of grouping pupils has been as satisfactory in placing children in homogeneous age groups as the previous plan of 1924; and third, to find whether there has been any financial saving to the Pittsburg schools through acceleration as a result of the present plan of ability grouping.
