Statement of the Problem

What impact do building codes have on commercial buildings?

Purpose of the Study

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of building codes on commercial buildings. The study will attempt to answer the following questions:

1. What effects do building codes have on commercial buildings in urban areas?
2. Why are building codes successful in some cities but have failed in others?
3. What contributions are building departments making (with regards to building codes) to the success or failure of their cities?
