Abstract
The problem was to determine the historical background and trends of the general shop in the state of Kansas. Sources of information were secured in a survey of all accredited school districts in the state of Kansas by the use of a questionnaire. Information was taken from interviews with individuals having been influential in advocating and using the general shop as an organizational procedure and from letters which were sent to Kansas colleges and the junior colleges which were known to use a general shop in their industrial arts program.
