Abstract
This study seeks to determine the habits, cost, and type of insurance carried by various business firms in Pittsburg; their recommendations to the industry and to individuals who may enter or teach the subject of insurance. The business firms included in this study were limited only to locally-owned small business firms, excluding chain or large service organizations. Fifty business firms have been selected as a sufficient number to supply the information forming the basis for the study, including fourteen different types of business. Under the normative-survey method of research the personal interview technique, supplemented by a check-list questionnaire was used. The information was gathered by means of a personal interview with the owner of the business. In order to guide the interviewer, a simple answer questionnaire was used. The survey was conducted during the months of June and July, 1955.
