PROCLAMATION by Congressman Harold Ford
WHEREAS, I am priviledged to join in a salute to Eva Jessye, an authority on Afro-American speech, music and customs, and is the director of the internationally known Eva Jessye Choir, and
WHEREAS, Eva Jessye is deserving of the highest honor for the artistic talent, skill, ingenuity and expertise which she brings to the world of culture, as demonstrated by the numerous citations and awards which she has received from cities, states and organizations, and
WHEREAS, I am honored to join with Ossie Davis, Coretta Scott King, Robert Bennett, Leontyne Price and Frederick Ashton who proclaim that she is indeed "one of the most distinguished women of this century", "a true professional", and a marvelous human being and musician, and
WHEREAS, Eva Jessye is a woman of courage and adventure as indicated by her numerous involvements and achievements in the artistic arena. She is a renowned specialist in music, theater, motion pictures, radio and television, and is the musical director for MGM's "Hallelujah". She is a member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, and holder of the Centennial Medal of said church, and
WHEREAS, Eva Jessye epitomizes the many traits and abilities befitting a Christian woman: loyalty, strength, determination, dedication, nobility, patience, wisdom, faith, and love for her fellowman.
NOW BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that I, HAROLD FORD, Member of Congress join with you as you are honored this 18th day of November, 1983, having set my hand and caused the great seal of the Congress of the United States to become affixed here in Memphis, Tennessee.
