SQUARE STUFF
Carson Robison, famous exponent of the town and country style dancing and long popular with this set for his unique calls for turns in that phase of choreography, has something new to be tried in the old barn ball-room.
Now Carson squares the sets, and together with his Pleasant Valley Boys, Robison has cut some music to match the new tricky steps.
Recorded by MGM, Carson's latest album, "Square Your Sets," isn't just another collection of calls. Here Carson offers "Bumps-A-Daisy, " the old hands, knees, and bumps-a-daisy thing with some brand new tricks creating an hilarious effect for any square (dancers of course). Then there is a "Square Dance Jitterbug" designed for the older set to compete with the youngsters.
For variation the set includes the "Square Waltz" and the "Square Dance Polka" and for some real howlin' and hoopin' a thing called "Promenade Indian Style." If that isn't enough you can twirl "Around The Outside" and "Keep On Circlin ' 'Round."
In conclusion Carson and the Boys do the utterly fantastic "Birdie In The Cage" -- by this time you will have had a lot of fun with "Square Your Sets" and you might be perfectly willing to submit to "Birdie In The Cage."
But, no foolin', even if you've never been interested in cultivating the square set yourself, it might be nice to keep this album on hand for your four-cornered friends!
Obligingly Leo has waxed the disks in all three speeds.
