My dear friend Mrs F.
I wish you a gay new year & a merry Christmas. I rec’d [received] a box fully furnished with bounties a week ago, Saturday even. & wondered from whom it came to me safely[.] Only the box was crushed in places but the candies were perfect without harm. Your letter reached me a few days ago. I thank you truly for those
