The letters and cards of Pulitzer Prize-winning poet James Tate (1943-2015) written to professor, historian, and friend, Eugene DeGruson (1932-1997), cover the years of 1962 to 1983. Tate was a student at the Kansas State College of Pittsburg, in Pittsburg, Kansas (now Pittsburg State University) in the early 1960s, where “Gene” DeGruson was a professor of literature and languages, and later the curator of the Kansas Collection and Special Collections. In the letters, Tate gives his friend DeGruson news about his readings, publishing, teaching, and personal matters. These letters are from the Eugene DeGruson Papers at Pittsburg State University.
