Pittsburg State: Then & Now
The McPherson Nursing Education Building was constructed and dedicated in 1977. Dedicated to the McPherson Family, all Pittsburg State graduates and southeast Kansas educators. Prior to this building, nursing students would train at the local Mt. Carmel Hospital while taking classes on campus. McPherson combines these two areas into one, centrally located Department of Nursing where nursing students can train and take their courses. McPherson continued, and continues, to host nursing students. The Department of Nursing was renamed the Irene Ransom Bradley School of Nursing in 2013 after Dr. Fay Bradley's mother. In 2023, the university celebrated the addition of a simulation hospital to the building, where students can practice their skills and knowledge in a realistic setting.
