After George’s baseball career, he continued to serve his community and family. Staying in Chicago after leaving the American Giants, George began delivering for the post office. He held up the phrase, "neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds," as George himself recounts in his memoir that he delivered packages in the worst of snow storms. Outside of work, he was a Little League coach, a Scoutmaster, and a foster parent. When George retired, he and Evelyn moved to join their son in Los Angeles where they lived for the rest of their lives.
