Following his return home from service, George was unsure what he wanted to do. A friend encouraged him to apply to the State Manual Training Normal school in Pittsburg. George received a scholarship and began classes in spring of 1920 to become a teacher. While attending college at Pittsburg, George received various athletic accomplishments playing basketball, football, and track. He became the first Black student athlete in school history to letter in three different sports. During the remaining time of his college career George won titles in track, despite facing segregation at sporting events.
