Abstract
The writer became directly interested in county supervision in 1932 while he was a candidate for county superintendent. A defeat in the election left various questions in the mind of the writer regarding county supervision. The most pertinent of these questions were: (1) How is the county superintendent's time distributed? (2) What are the common methods of supervision? (3) How do the methods of supervision in the elementary school and the high school differ? (4) What are the present objectives of county supervisors? (5) What are the outcomes of rural supervision? (6) What are the greatest needs of rural supervision in Kansas?
The writer decided that a study on these major questions should be of value, and finally limited the problem to the following: To determine in a scientific, authoritative manner the agencies, objectives and outcomes of county supervision as practiced in Kansas.
The writer felt that if this materials could be carefully collected and tabulated that it would present a basis for further study leading to further improvement in Kansas rural schools through supervision.
