Abstract
Apparently it is not possible, at this present stage of development, to formulate any rigorus rules correlating chemical constitution with insecticidal action, and in agreement with such inadequate knowledge, it is extremely difficult to predict with any confidence the insecticidal action of new organic compounds. [...] A study of each of the various groups in the pyrethrins should lead to an extension of our knowledge of their specific contribution, if any, to insecticidal activity. Such a study is now in progress, and this thesis reports one phase of that problem, namely, the insecticidal activity of esters of some cyclic acids, especially cyclopropyl carboxylic acids similar to that occurring in the pyrethrum molecule.
