Abstract

The need is great in high schools, colleges, and universities for a complete classification of short stories. Such classification, however, is well nigh impossible because of the enormous number of short stories which are being written at the present time. The short story seems to be gaining popularity because of its very brevity and conciseness. Many magazines contain nearly twice as many short stories as serials. It may be understood, therefore, that there can not be a complete classification of short stories. This list is not intended to be complete but representative. It is partial classification of stories of only three types: adventure, character, and love.
