Abstract

This study has been prompted by a feeling, on the part of the writer and others, that high-school teachers are obliged to perform a great many teaching and non-teaching activities of a professional nature, while engaged in teaching service, for which inadequate pre-service training has been made. This feeling has been re-enforced by observation on the part of the writer, of high-school teachers at work and practice teachers in training, and by careful introspection when the writer has attempted to put into execution the content of his own professional training. Six phases of the teaching job have been selected for analysis, both as to certain activities performed under each phase and pre-service training pursued as a means to the end of predicting satisfactory proficiency in carrying into execution these teaching activities.
