Abstract

The dairy industry, like many others, has come to the point where replacement, repairs, and shut downs are costs exacted each year from the profits by the action of corrosive materials on equipment. Next to natural water, milk is the liquid which is produced or handled in the greatest quantities in the United States. During the last few years there has been a rapid development of corrosive resistant metals and this has led investigators to study their behavior in different corrosive mediums. The purpose of this investigation is to determine by experimental methods what metals are most suitable for constructing dairy equipment from a standpoint of durability and cost.
