Abstract
In order to get an idea relative to the size, difficulty, and usefulness of the vocabularies of the "basic" readers used in the Kansas elementary schools a check was made on the Bobbs Merrill Readers III, IV, V, VI, VII, and VIII.
The study was carried on by the writers with the assistance of forty-two students in the Fulton, Kansas High School. Since there were no comparative data of similar studies the Thorndike's Teachers Word Book was used as a basic for comparison.
