Abstract

This poster session will discuss how a collaborative virtual art exhibit between the Art Department and Library Services showcased distance learners’ work. Virtual art exhibits meet many needs and goals. These exhibits can be free or lower cost than a traditional art exhibit, reach more individuals as all they need is an internet connection, and provide a lower barrier to displaying one’s artwork. At this academic institution, the goals of a virtual art exhibit are the building of students’ portfolios and creating a deeper campus connection with distance learners. Pittsburg State University’s Library Services and the Art Department worked together to create and host a virtual art exhibit. This poster will cover the process of creating a virtual art exhibits including considerations on copyright, publicity, and hosting sites.
