Abstract

The purpose of this study was to historically examine the concept of hell through the perspective of the social construction of reality theory of communication. A historical review of the original translated words was conducted and compared against four early English versions of The Bible. As a result of the research conducted it is possible to make a strong argument that the current concept of hell being a place of eternal punishment in the form of an afterlife is a concept that was socially constructed and still reified into current realities.
